CARBON MARKET IN CEBU
Carbon Market is the liveliest place in TOWN !
It's interesting, picturesque, and fully loaded with the island's local color!
Carbon Market got it's name in the last 18th century during the time when people used steam to generate
electricity. They used this area to dump heaps of carbon waste, so the whole area turned out to be a mountain of
Carbon. Thus, it derived it' s name, Carbon market
Nowadays, they dont have piles of Carbon anymore. Instead, it is occupied by merchants from different parts of the islands, selling everything from A-Z. It's character has not diminished through the years. It still lives up to it's
name Carbon, dark, dinghy, and "dirty."
Is it safe here?Basically it is a safe place,
however I would advise anyone not to carry their valuables in this area. Please leave your documents and jewelries in the car or preferably at home. This area is worth checking out, if you are really curious the of the city's true local color. People from the neighboring islands and Cebu's locals from the countryside buy their products here.
The products normally costs double or triple at retail stores. Hundreds of people come here everyday from all walks of life. Huge hotels, and popular chains of restaurants, as well as well-known establishments buy here too, as it is indeed, the cheapest place in town!
